Grueby Pottery, Wilhelmina Post, 9 5/8″ tall
$3,500.00
This rare and exceptional vase was modeled by Wilhelmina Post, one of the few known women artists to work at the Grueby Pottery prior to 1904. Her work is increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors of American art pottery.
The vase stands 9 5/8″ tall and features distinctive buttressed handles, a hallmark of Post’s sculptural modeling style. It bears three authenticating marks:
The conjoined “WP” monogram,
The pressed Grueby Faience Company mark, and
The original paper label, still intact.
The piece is in as-found condition with no repairs or restoration. It does show some crazing on the shoulder, as visible in the provided images, which is consistent with age.
This is a significant and early example of Post’s work and a good representation of Grueby’s artistic output during its most important period.
