Grueby Pottery (Boston, MA) refers to a highly influential American art pottery maker from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, associated with the American Arts and Crafts Movement. William Henry Grueby (1867–1925) founded the Grueby Faience Company in Boston, Massachusetts in 1894. The firm produced hand-made art pottery vases and vessels and also architectural tiles and terra cotta. Grueby became best known for its distinctive matte glazes, especially a rich matte green often called “Grueby green”, and its simple, natural forms often decorated with stylized plant motifs. Stands 8 3/8″ tall and is in very good condition.
